SuperSplat vs SplatScene: Which 3DGS Editor Is Better?
Both tools can help you inspect and clean Gaussian Splats. The important difference is where the workflow runs and what you need to do before and after editing.
At a glance
| Question | SuperSplat | SplatScene |
|---|---|---|
| Where it runs | Browser | Native macOS app |
| Local training | No | Yes, on Apple Silicon from photos or video |
| Editing | Strong browser editor | Selection and cleanup workflow with undo and local saves |
| Offline-first | Limited by browser setup and file workflow | Yes for the core Mac workflow |
| Best fit | Fast sharing or browser-based editing | Mac creators who want viewing, training and cleanup together |
Where SuperSplat wins
- Easy access: Open the editor in a supported browser without installing a native app.
- Focused editing: It is a mature choice when your input is already trained and you want a capable editor.
- Cross-platform convenience: A browser workflow can be easier for teams using different operating systems.
Where SplatScene wins
- One local workflow: View existing
.spz,.ply,.splat,.sog,.sogs,.ksplatand.radscenes, then train new scenes from photos or video on Apple Silicon. - Privacy and repeatability: Core processing stays on the Mac, which is useful for client or sensitive footage.
- Cleanup for real captures: Histogram, box and brush selection target floating points and background residue, with undo/redo and a re-open check after saving.
- Presentation: Capture PNG, MP4, WebM and GIF outputs without moving the scene to another viewer.
Important limitations
SplatScene requires macOS 13 or later on Apple Silicon. It is not a Windows or Linux editor. It currently does not provide hole filling, surface copying or copy/paste, so a workflow that depends on those operations needs another tool. The free tier allows viewing, training and edit previews; Pro removes the limits on edit saves and model exports.
How to choose
Choose SuperSplat if...
Your scenes are already trained, you want a browser-based editor, or your team needs a convenient cross-platform review link.
Choose SplatScene if...
You work on an Apple Silicon Mac, want training and viewing in the same local app, or need a private cleanup-and-share loop without uploading source footage.
For a fair decision, test both with the same representative file. Time the first frame, try the same cleanup task, save the result, reopen it and note any format or memory limits. Feature lists do not reveal those workflow costs.
