SplatScene is the native macOS 3D Gaussian Splatting viewer, trainer and editor. Drag in any .splat, .spz, .ply, .sog scene and explore it in real time — or train a brand-new scene from a folder of photos or a video, entirely on your Mac. Five visual effects, one-click cleanup, and MP4 / GIF sharing make finished splats fun to show off.
Drop files straight onto the window, or set SplatScene as the default app and double-click to open: .spz, .ply, .splat, .sog, .sogs, .ksplat, .rad. No conversion, no accounts, no import step.
Orbit, pan and zoom with trackpad-friendly controls, jump to an automatic orbit that walks around the scene, or go immersive to explore in fullscreen. Keyboard shortcuts cover everything.
The natural look straight from your scan.
Neon-edged futuristic glow.
Soft, airy, almost painterly light.
Brush-stroke shading with a hand-painted feel.
Bold luminous trails over the model.
Turn a stack of photos or a phone video into a real 3D scene you can walk around. Everything — frame selection, alignment and training — runs locally on Apple Silicon, so your footage never leaves your machine.
Point SplatScene at a folder of images or a video clip. Smart frame selection automatically drops blurry, duplicate and poorly-lit frames so COLMAP gets clean input.
COLMAP reconstructs the camera path, then the built-in trainer fits the Gaussian splats over it using Metal. Pick Quick (7k iterations) for a fast draft, Standard (15k), or High (30k) for maximum quality.
Save the finished scene as a PLY file to use anywhere, or keep it in your SplatScene project library and jump straight to effects, cleanup and capture.
Quality presets adapt to your machine (8 / 16 / 24 GB tiers), so an 8 GB MacBook Air still gets a usable scene.
Unlimited local training runs — no subscription to a render farm, no per-job upload fees.
Training is a SplatScene Pro capability (try it free for 3 days). Viewing stays free.
Real scans collect stray floating bits. Select the splats you don't want and remove them, with undo / redo so you can always walk a bad edit back. Your cleaned scene stays editable in the project library.
Save a PNG screenshot, record MP4 or WebM video, or export a GIF. The 8-second automatic orbit gives you a ready-made turntable clip with one click.
Grab a ready-made scene to open in View, or download photo and video samples to train your first scene in Create. Files are served from the Cloudflare CDN — no account needed.
How to use: drag a .spz or .ply scene onto the SplatScene window to open it. To train, unzip a photo set and point Create at that folder, or drop the .mp4 straight into Create.
A compact scan that loads in seconds — the quickest way to see the viewer in action.
Download .spzA high-detail 2-million-splat scene that shows off Apple Silicon performance.
Download .spzA village captured by a DJI Mini 4 Pro, 400k splats, exported in standard PLY format.
Download .plySix photos from a drone survey, downscaled — enough to train a first scene in minutes. Recommended first try.
Download .zipThe original DJI Mini 4 Pro flight video. Drop it into Create and let smart frame selection pick the best frames.
Download .mp4All 64 full-resolution photos from the M3E survey — a realistic full dataset for a high-quality training run.
Download .zipThe MP4 and full photo set are large raw captures. The Quick Photo Set is enough to test the whole training pipeline end to end.
